This is just a reminder: Don't believe the crap we post!
Seriously. Instead of believing the news you read/hear/watch, think about it. Know the source of your news. Consider that news source and the article's author. Consider the author's background. Think about the phrase "follow the money." Beware of statistics cited, and if they're not cited take them with a grain of salt. Watch out for biased or inaccurate headlines.
Above all, think!
So be skeptical. Look for spin. Think about stories from different perspectives. Read and read some more. Decide for yourself what your personal values are, what you think governments should be doing, and where your personal morality lies.
• Media often presents information in a "he said, she said" format claiming this is "balance". Or the media attempts to cover "both sides" of a story. But what if the story has more than two sides? Isn't this setting artificial "borders" on the debate? What if one side should not be covered at all because it offends your or most people's values and morality? Should some perspectives be ignored? The answers to those questions are being made for you -- be aware of them.
• There is no such thing as an "unbiased" article. Some articles have more or less bias, some hide biases better than others, but every article is filtered through some human's perception and value system. Remember, "mainstream" does not mean unbiased; it just means wide circulation.
• Check out the end portions of articles -- often some of the "best" information is buried in the article.
The vast majority of news and articles on this site come from other sources. Relatively few original articles originate from this site. We include links to the original article not only to give the original authors credit, but for you to analyze the source of the article.
Above all, think!
P.S. We do not think the articles we post are crap.
Also note there will be precious few "humor" articles posted. That's not because we don't have a sense of humor, but there's a time and place for humor.
We consider the decline of liberty and human rights, the issues of war and peace, to be very serious. That's because some people are literally being tortured and dying over these issues.
